GOODBYE SWEET
ESMERELDA
When adopting your pet, keep in mind
that special needs and older cats want homes, too. They make very
appreciative house pets. |
Many of you have met Esmerelda. She
arrived at our shelter about eleven years ago--she was one of our first
residents. She also had feline leukemia. Her personality was questionable at
first, but after a while she settled in and became our matriarch. All of
these years she has watched her friends come and go. She was always left
behind. We tried to be her family knowing she would most likely never leave.
No matter how hard we tried, we were not home. After awhile she gave up
trying to impress adopters since she almost never got a second glance. As
the years passed the disease began to take its toll. She got thinner and
thinner, she lost her luxurious coat and her eyes faded. We loved her more.
When we knew her time was short one of our
volunteers took her home. Everyday she was told, "Ezzy, YOU WERE PICKED!"
Ezzy began grooming herself again and even sharpened her claws on the
antique hutch. This past fall, Ezzy peacefully died in her sleep.
Goodbye Ezzy. We'll miss you. |
