The CAT PROTECTION SOCIETY is a NO-KILL Shelter

Home What's Happening Facility Adopt-A-Kitty

We Get Our Own Surgical Unit  Dr. Beau Delaporte of Mount Dora Veterinary Hospital has offered to be available one day a week to perform surgery on our cats and to examine and treat any cat needing medical attention. This has been our dream from the beginning. We did not think it would happen this soon but we, with Dr. Delaporte's help and guidance, have furnished a surgical suite. This was very expensive, but it will eventually pay for itself in money saved. The big picture here is that this is the first baby step to a possible spay/neuter clinic in the future. We are in contact with several other veterinarians to see if they would also consider working with our shelter, even occasionally. It's a really big start; a state-of-the-art surgical suite is quite a coup for us.

Can you help us with our Kitty Wish List?

Thank you to all our volunteers who give of their time at the CAT PROTECTION SOCIETY!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Our number of volunteers has increased, but WE NEED MORE! We have a job for everyone from cat petting to complete area clean up. Several husband and wife teams have committed to one Saturday or Sunday a month. Can you? Call us at 352.589.6228 to give of your time in a most rewarding way.

MEET DOROTHY HUNTER--Volunteer Extraordinaire

Dorothy is our longest serving volunteer. In September of 1997, Dorothy, Lois and her mother (our founding members) were at the original site of the recently vacated Humane Society. Dorothy said that they were a pitiful sight as they worked on their hands and knees chipping up cracked and broken linoleum. Even though she considers herself a "dog person," her love of all animals prompted her to rollup her sleeves and join in what was to become the fledgling Cat Protection Society. A nurse by profession, hard work and dedication came naturally to her and almost 11 years later, she still volunteers at the Shelter and sits on the Board of Directors.

After all these years at the Shelter, she has almost turned her into a total "cat person" but when some cruel person tied "Precious," a pregnant and starving black lab to the Shelter gate almost seven years ago, Dorothy took her home. Precious is the best dog she's ever owned and of course, the smartest dog in the universe! Come visit the shelter on Mondays and meet Dorothy--a nicer person will be hard to find!

SAVE A DEATH ROW KITTY!

Be a part of something very special...your donation to this fund is used for our weekly  kitty rescue. The kitty selected for saving is currently serving time on "death row" at Animal Control in Astatula.  Our cost to rescue one is $50, which pays for vaccinations, spaying/neutering and veterinary treatment.
